SPECIAL DAIRY ISSUE

HISTORY OF THE INDUSTRY METHODS ANCIENT AND MODERN. THE OUTLOOK FOR THE FUTURE. The special dairy industry supplement published to-day contains greetings and forecasts from the Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes, the Minister of Finance, the Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates, and all the members of Parliament save one who represent Taranaki electors. It will be noted that the messages from all of them are full of hope, though there is no attempt at disguise of the difficulties ahead.

The supplement shows in what difficult circumstances the dairy industry has developed, its triumph over obstacles, inherent to the transformation of the forest into farm lands, and its constant development of technique. From scientists and experts information has been obtained showing not only what has been accomplished but the difficulties now being grappled with, from the farm to the shop oversea. Another section is devoted to what are sometimes called “sidelines” of dairy farming, such as the rearing of pigs and poultry and bee-keeping.- In each subject discussed endeavour has been made to supply the teaching of actual experience in Taranaki in such matters as the care and management of livestock, as well as that of the scientist, though it may be said that the conclusions in. each case are much the 'same in principle. The evolution of commercial aids to the development of the dairy industry is one of the most remarkable phases in its history. Full support of this exceptional growth will be found in the commercial pages of the supplement, and their perusal will justify the claim made by the mercantile houses of the Dominion that in no other dairying country is the industry served better than in New Zealand, and no part of the Dominion more thoroughly than the province of Taranaki.

A limited number of extra copies of the supplement has been printed, and readers desiring additional copies for themselves or to send away to friends should place their orders immediately with their nearest branch office or agent.
