BABY CARNIVAL CONCLUDES
GATHERING AT OKATO. After running for several weeks, a .Bush v. Beach baby carnival, in aid of the Anglican Church culminated in a crowning ceremony on Saturday afternoon. With a total of 13,333 votes, the Bush candidate, Baby Max Rook, was the winner after a very close contest, Baby Betty Dixon (Beach) being about 1000 behind. The sum-of £lO6 was raised as a result of the effort. The following comprised the carnival committees: Bush, Mesdames Putt (secretary), Brown, N. Corbett, L. H. Andrews, Rook and W. Corbett, and Messrs. Brown, Andrews, N. Corbett, Putt and Rook; Beach, Mesdames W. Clarke, K. N. Andrews, Dixon, Crossley and Dunn and Messrs. Eustace, D. A. Fox and Mrs. J. S. Fox (secretary). Saturday’s gathering took the form of a children’s party, the Hempton hall being crowded. Games and dances were held under the supervision Of Miss Petersen. The Misses K. Goodin and Petersen played accompaniments. The babies’ floral decorated prams, led the grand march, after which Canon C. E. Newbould, performed the crowning ceremony. Each baby was presented with a silver cup.
