RESUMPTION OF MIGRATION

ECONOMIC RECOVERY NECESSARY.

REPORT OF BRITISH COMMITTEE.

By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright, ■a London, Sept 6. A 93-page Blue Boole has been issued containing the report of the inter-depart-mental committee on migration, of which Mr. Malcolm MacDonald is chairman. Copies have been sent to all Dominion Governments for consideration and suggestions. The report emphasises that economic recovery must precede the. resumption of migration, for it is useless to attempt to settle men in the Dominions until markets ajre assured for their products. Anticipating economic difficulties only, a temporary committee examined every aspect of migration with the view of ultimately reaching a common policy and agreed on methods after consultations with the British and Dominion Governments.

The committee expresses the. opinion that when economic recovery has begun there is no reason why British migration to the Dominions should not again reach the figure of 150,000 to 250,000 a year at a comparatively small expense to the Governments concerned.
