MISS VERONICA KARALUS WINS.

SUCCESSFUL FOOTBALLERS’ BALL,

The queen carnival, which has been conducted by the Ratapiko Tennis Club, was brought to a close last week. The gold candidate, • Miss Veronica Karalus, was top with 1150 votes, and the pink candidate. Miss Margaret Teller, was not far behind, having 1053 votes. Owing to the queen-elect being ill, the crowning ceremony has been postponed until next month.

The Ratapiko Football Club’s annual dance was held in the hall on Tuesday, when there was one of the largest attendances that has ever congregated in the Ratapiko hall. Visitors were present from Stratford, Inglewood, New Plymouth, Tariki, Kaimata, Pukeho, Tuna and Midhirst. The hall was gaily decked in the club colours, green and gold, paper streamers being hung from a centre piece to form an umbrella effect. Large ponga fronds were artistically arranged around the walls, and across the end of

the hall goal-posts were erected, with a football suspended in the air as if making a flight over the cross-bar. The Schnieder Shield, which was won by the team this year, was also given a prominent place among the decorations. The colours were again displayed in the supper room, the tables ■ being decorated with spring bulbs and greenery. ...

Non-dancers were catered for with,, a euchre tournament which, was controlled by Mr. Roy Therkleson. The prizes were won by Miss Jean Young and Mr. Tom Eversfield.

Mr. W. Wells and Mr. Doug Therkleson were masters of ceremonies. A Monte Carlo dance attracted a large number of entries, and was won by Mr. W. Bally, Stratford, and partner. A pair of turkeys was won by Mr, Frank Stachurski.

Stackurski has been slaying with relations at Waitui.
