DISSOLUTION ASKED FOR
PETITION FROM ELECTORS PARLIAMENT WITHOUT MANDATE. SUGGESTED APPEAL TO KING. SAID TO BE 54,000 SIGNATURES. •By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Sept. 1. A petition said to be signed by 54,000 electors has been forwarded to the Governor-General, praying him to dissolve the present Parliament at the end of the 1934 session, on the ground that Parliament had without a mandate from the electors legislated to extend the term of office for a further period than that for which it was elected. A covering letter with the petition requests that ifi in the opinion of His Excellency, there cain be any doubt as to the rights of the people to demand that Parliament be dissolved at the end of the present session the petitioners .be granted the right to appeal to His Majesty the King in person, and adds that it is ■understood this is the first time on record in the history of the Dominion that such an appeal has been made to the Governor-General, and that the course adopted has been taken only after very careful consideration.
