SECURITY UNION

SCHEME FOR NEW EMPIRE AUSTRIA UNDER MONARCHY PRINCE OTTO VISITS ITALY TALK OF ROYAL MARRIAGE OVERTURES TO HUNGARY By Telegraph—Press Assn—Copyright. Rec. 12.50 a.m. Rome, Aug. 5. It is understood that Signor Mussolini will give audience to Prince Otto, the Hapsburg pretender, after August 10. Dr. Schuschinigg may also be present. Behind Dr. Schuschinigg’s and Prince Otto’s visit to Signor Mussolini lies a scheme to marry Prince Otto and Princess Maria, the only unmarried daughter of the King of Italy, and restore the monarchy in Austria, thus binding Austria and Italy in a new security union, says the Sunday Chronicle’s diplomatic correspondent. Talks are also being conducted at Budapest in connection with the proposed welding of Austria and Hungary in a new Hapsburg empire. Dr. Schuschnigg, the new Chancellor, addressing a peasants’ rally in memory of Dr. Dollfuss, declared: “We want peace. We are willing to conclude peace with everybody, even if we did not realise until confronted with Dr. Dollfuss’ coffin that they have hitherto been in the wrong.” Dr. Fuehrer, a lawyer, has been arrested owing to the strong Nazi sympathies he evinced in defending Planetta, who was hanged for the murder of Dr. Dollfuss.
