DIED ON WAY TO DOCTOR’S

INQUEST HELD ON J. B. CROWE.

FINDING OF HEART FAILURE.

An inquest concerning the death of John Burkett Crowe, a Lepperton carrier, single, aged 53, who died in a motor-car at New Plymouth on June 16 as he was about to consult Dr. E. A. Walker, was conducted yesterday by the district coroner, Mr. W. H. Woodward, g.M. The finding was in .accordance with the medical evidence, that death was due to heart failure, contributed to by a condition of diabetes mellitus. The coroner said there seemed to be. no doubt about the cause of death. Although Crowe had seemed to his friends to be in good health, the doctor’s evidence showed that he was not in good health and was suffering from a very serious condition of the heart.

Evidence connected with a post mortem examination on the body was given by Dr. C. A. Taylor, physician at the New Plymouth Hospital. He said the heart was badly dilated, especially on the right side. There were signs of early pericarditis. After giving other details of the condition of the heart, the doctor said death was due to heart failure as a result of coronary thrombosis occurring in the atheromatous coronary artery. The thrombosis was contributed to by a condition of diabetes mellitus, which was described as being present in a moderate degree. Constable L. E. W. Mitchell gave formal evidence.

Frederick Thomas Crowe, Lepperton, said his brother was in good health when he last saw him on June 10. About 20 months ago his brother had a bad attack of gall-stones and was attended by Dr. Blackley, who placed him on a diet.

James C. Wallace, Lepperton, grocer, who accompanied Crowe to the doctor, also gave evidence.
