CANDIDATE IN QUEEN CARNIVAL.
PERSONAL AND GENERAL ITEMS.
A euchre party and dance was held at the Waitui Hall on Monday evening, to advance the cause of the Kaimata candidate, Miss Helen Cartwright, in the Inglewood rest room queer, carnival campaign. Euchre prizes were won by Mrs. P. Roberts, Miss Lovell, Inglewood (after playing off with Miss Bakewell), Mr. N. Jordan and Mr. Effer. Damjing was continued to excellent music supplied by Vinsen’s Ambassador Dance Band. Competitions were won by Mr. P. Roberts and Mr. Schneider. The officials were Mr. P. Roberts, master of ceremonies, Mr. T. Bakewell, cards, and Mr. L. Hunter, doorkeeper. On Thursday the final function in support of the Kaimata candidate was held in the Kaimata Hall, there being a good attendance of supporters. An enjoyable evening was spent with dancing, euchre, and competitions. Euchre prizes were won by: Ladies, Mrs. K. Middlemiss 1, Mrs. G. Gibbins 2 (after playing off with Mrs. Middlemiss), Mrs. N. Blackbourn, consolation prize; men, Mr. I. V. Buchanan 1, Mr. H. Klenner 2 (after playing off with Mr. A. Lawrence), Mr. N. Bracegirdle consolation. Competitions were won by Mrs. Gibbs, Mr. A. Bracegirdle, Miss G. Riley, Miss M. Gibbins and Miss G. Riley. Music was supplied by the Ratapiko orchestra. The officials for the evening jvere Messrs N. Bracegirdle and H. Klenner, cards; Mr. R. Klenner, master of ceremonies, and Mr. K. Riley, doorkeeper. The supper committee was headed by Mesdames J. Klennr and J. Cartwright. Mrs. I. E. Blackbourn, Derby Road, is the guest of Mr. and Mrs. L. Blackbourn, Kaimata, South Road. Mr. and Mrs. G. Gibbins, Junction Road, have returned from a motor tour of the Auckland district. Mr. H. Burwell, Kaimata South Road, who has been on a motor tour of the north, has returned. Mr. and Mrs. F. Dravitski and family, Junction Road, who have been residents of Kaimata for several years, left on Thursday to reside at Oaonui. Mr. and Mrs. W. Haylock, Okato, are the guests of Mr. and Mrs. J. Collingwood, Junction Road. Mr. and Mrs. T. Potroz, Kaimata South Road, accompanied by Mr. F. Potroz, Miss M. Potroz and Mr. T. Burkett, have left on a motor tour of the Auckland and Rotorua districts. Mrs. D. Bracegirdle, Kaimata South Road, has returned from New Plymouth, where she has been undergoing treatment.
Mr. and Mrs. J. Haylock, Uruti, are visiting the Kaimata district. Miss V. L. Mullan is spending the week-end at New Plymouth. Mr. and Mrs. F. Adlam, Junction Road, have gone to Hawera on holiday. Mrs. L. Dobson, Suffolk Road, who has been spending a holiday in Auckland, has returned. Mrs. N. Nicholls, Rahotu, who has been visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. Dobson, Junction Road, has now returned home.
The erection of the bridge across the Maketepinu Stream on the Suffolk Road is proceeding slowly, the work being held up for lack of supplies. If supplies are not soon to hand work may be ceased for an. indefinite period. In the heavy rain on Wednesday 1.4 inches were registered, for the 24 hours.
