INGLEWOOD BAND POSITION

CHAMBER OF COMMERCE HELP. The executive of the Inglewood Chamber of Commerce held its monthly meeting on Tuesday night, when Messrs. W. J. Smith (chairman), E. Maetzig (secretary), F. Spurdie, J. Bumip, E. Crossman, D. McAllister and W. T. Somerton were present. An invitation was received from the Inglewood volunteer fire brigade for the chamber to attend a demonstration. The secretary of the Inglewood Municipal Band, Mr. Seymour, waited on the executive to place before it the position of the band, Mr. Seymour stated that unless some move was made to stabilise the band’s funds it might have to disband. It had been a useful institution and it seemed a pity to allow it to disintegrate through want of public support. He outlined a scheme whereby townspeople would be invited to contribute. There was a large amount of promising material available to swell the band but there was great shortage of instruments.

The meeting gave Mr. Seymour a sympathetic hearing promising the support of the chamber. The sum of £1 Is was voted to the band’s funds. The salary of the band conductor,, said Mr. Seymour, had fallen from £75 to £25 during the past few years.
