WHANGAMOMONA DISTRICT

GENERAL AND PERSONAL NEWS. The Whangamomona Ladies’ Hockey Cub held practice matches on the domain recently, and a very promising muster resulted. During the practice several residents marked out the ground, and assisted in preparations for the opening on Thursday, when it is hoped to hold, a tournament among the eastern district clubs. The local club held the first of a series of euchre tournaments in the Oddfellows’ hall on Tuesday night, the attendance being good in spite of the bad weather. During the current season more than 9000 white butterflies have been destroyed by the children attending the Whangamomona school. The pest has been very prevalent in the district, and every garden appears to have its crop of ruined cabbages. Personal. Miss E. Hendry, Hastings, is spending a holiday with her parents at Whangamomona. Mrs. P. Lawson, Inglewood, is the guest of her daughter, Mrs. P. Fougere. Miss N. Geever has returned from a holiday at Auckland. Mr. C. Watters, who has been on annual vacation, returned home on Monday. Miss c. Callaghan has returned from a short holiday spent at Wanganui.
