TENNIS MATCH. During the week-end a team from the Waiakaura Maori Tennis Club visited the St. Patrick’s Club team and defeated them by 17 sets 126 games to 7 sets 93 games. Results are as follow, Waikaura being mentioned first:— Men’s singles: J. Kitt lost to B. Scannell 5—6, R. Morgan lost to J. Christie 2—6, J. Ratahi lost to J. Duncan 4—6, T. Daymon beat L. Hughes 6—5, T. Whakaneke beat T. Nelson 6—5, S. Rei beat B. Brown 6—5. Ladies’ singles: Miss D. Manu beat Miss I. Mourie 6—o, Miss J. Rei beat Miss N. Christie 6—3, Miss K. Rei beat Miss N. Gopperth 6—2, Miss K. Rei lost to Miss S. Gopperth 2—6, Miss H. Rei beat Miss F. Sutton 6—o, Miss M. Reupena lost to Miss W. Sutton 2—6. Men’s doubles: J. Kitt and R. Morgan beat B. Scannell and J. Euchre and Dance Social. The second euchre and dance social of the first series in aid of the Convent school funds was held in St. Patrick’s hall on Monday evening. There was a good attendance. The winners of the euchre prizes were: Ladies, Miss White 1, Miss N. Franklin 2; men, Mr. A. Franklin 1, Mr. Watkins 2. Excellent dance music was played by Waite’s Adelphi Orchestra, and extras were contributed by Misses E. O’Dea, M. Glengarry, T. Arden and Mr. Waite. Monte Carlos were won by Mr. D. Jones and Miss K. Brown and ( a second by Mr. N. Leopard and Miss I. Russell. A competition was won by Mrs. J. J. Meldon. An excellent supper was served by the ladies’ committee, consisting of Mesdames F. McPhillips, J. Russell, E. Wells, Hilles and Miss Hilles. Mr. L. Hughes acted as master of ceremonies. x Personal. Mr. and Mrs. Bridgeford, Auckland, who are the guests of Mr. and Mrs. E. Long, will return home this week. Mr. and Mrs. Coxhead, Dunedin, paid a brief visit to Manaia last week, being the guests of their daughter, Mrs. A. H. Christie. Mrs. A. G. Bennett is at present at Dannevirke, where her mother is seriously ill. The many friends of Mrs. Bennett wish her mother a speedy recovery.
