HARVEST FESTIVAL

ST. MARK’S, KAPONGA. At St. Mark’s Anglican Church on Sunday evening harvest festival services were held. The church was filled to overflowing, and the service was taken by the vicar of the parish (the Rev. A. J. Farnell). Special anthems were rendered by the choir, including “He Watereth the Hills,” the soloists being Mrs. R. Pascoe and Mr. Smart (Opunake). A solo was also rendered by Mrs. W. A. McCook. The annual sale of produce in connection with the festival takes place at the parish hall on Wednesday evening and a card evening has been arranged in conjunction. The parishioners hold their annual meeting on Friday evening. Opossum in High Tension Wires. When the local electrical engineer, Mr. A. W. Anderson, and Mr. Palmer Spry, Public Works inspecting engineer, were on a hour of inspection of the Town Board’s electrical supply area on Monday afternoon, a dead opossum was discovered in the high tension lines on the lower Palmer Road. It was ascertained from residents that opossums are on the increase in this district. Footpath Improvements. The Town Board workmen are at present engaged in tar-sealing the footpath approach to Victoria Park from the town hall to the park gates. Personal. Mr. C. L. Roberts, of the Bank of New Zealand staff, is at present carrying out relieving duties in Eltham.
