Within the next few days, work on the Wanganui harbour entrance will be transferred from the north to the south mole (states the Wanganui Chronicle). Approximately 500 feet of the north mole has been completed, leaving another 300 feet to be finished. It will be interesting to note the results which follow work on the south mole. Very little remains of this structure and it is confidently believed that when a length is built up to full tide height to correspond with the north mole, a scour will develop that will give practical indication of whether raising the moles will create the looked-for entrance depths. Some members of the board ate quite sure that the sandspit opposite the end of the Castlecliff wharf will disappear with the raising and packing of the south mole, and that ultimately, the groyne towards the outer end of the mole will come into its own in serving to narrow the scouring channel. Under the policy of the engineer (Mr. R. R. Dawson) the moles are being built up with big stone and packed with stone of smaller type to prevent avenues, of sand leakage.
