BYRD STEAMER IN STORM
FORCED TO REDUCE SPEED BEAR ROLLING DANGEROUSLY MEN THROWN FROM BUNKS By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. Rec. 8.10 p.m. Aboard the Bear, March 4. The Byrd expedition ship Bear of Oakland has been forced to reduce speed in mountainous seas. The ship is labouring heavily and rolling dangerously to fifty degrees on each side. No mess tables have been set for three days; it is too rough to hold the dishes. Men are frequently thrown from their bunks; hence all hands are remaining awake, clustered in groups and holding on to any fittings available to prevent injury.
