WAVERLEY DISTRICT NEWS

MAGISTRATE’S COURT SITTING. The monthly sitting of the Magistrate’s Court at Waverley was held yesterday before Mr. J. H. Salmon, S.M. Frederick Crocker, Waverley, for being in possession of an unregistered firearm, was convicted and fined 10s with costs. Charles William Tickner pleaded guilty to a charge of driving through the main street of Waitotara at a speed which might have been dangerous to the public. It was alleged that defendant approached the bridge and intersection in the township at a speed of 45 miles per hour. A fine of £2 and costs 10s was imposed. Judgment by default was given in the following cases: Cunningham Bros. v. H. Boswell, £1 13s (costs 13s); Bromileys, Ltd. v. G. V. Hartley, £1 10s (13s). Miniature Rifle Club.

Following were the scores at the weekly meeting of the Waverley Miniature Rifle Club: M- Dickie 46, P. Wallace 62, Gor. Spratt 39, W. Alexander 58, Geo. Spratt 55, M. Little 63, J. Johnston 57, A. Williams 61, W. Irwin 64, C. Orsman 61, W. Wall 58.

Personal Item. Over twenty guests were entertained by Mr. and Mrs. S. C. Dallison at a party given on Wednesday night in aid of the funds of the Plunket Society. The early part of the evening was spent in playing progressive five hundred, Mrs. Ericson and Mr. R. S. Aiken being the winners. “Booby” prizes were won by Mrs. Bowden and Mr. Mulholland. A delightful supper was served and dancing and community singing were then indulged in.
