SHOOTING SEASON BEGINS
HF.AW RAIN FALLS ALL DAY. May 1, the day eagerly awaited by all sportsmen, was spoilt for sport by heavy rain, and only a few extra keen sportsmen braved the downpour. In the circumstances good sport and real enjoyment were out of the question. In the outlying districts numbers of pheasants have been Seen, and quail have also been numerous. ' Hares are plentiful, while grey ducks have been in evidence in large numbers during the autumn.
Messrs. J. Power, F. Wallis and party, New Plymouth, have gone north on a shooting expedition. They report that ducks are plentiful, and good bags have been secured.
