The weather was fine and warm t and there was a large attendance for the third day of the Victorian Racing Club’s autumn meeting. Phocis led all the way in the Autumn Hurdles. The rider, Fullerton, was as- < sociated with the gelding’s win last week. Winooka made amends for his Newmarket defeat by a brilliant win in . the Leonard Stakes. He was not extended. The rider, Pike, won the event previously on Greenline, which was unplaced yesterday. Gaine Carrington registered his first, Victorian win by leading throughout in the Lloyd Stakes to beat the fartfinishing Kuvera. The winner is now trained by Cecil Godby and is owned by a bookmaker, J. Phillips. Topical won the Cup in a brilliant finish on the rails, scoring in the last few strides. Topical’s trainer is the veteran W. Kelso, who won the Melbourne Cup v/ith Statesman. Topical’s rider, Knox, was second with Yarramba in the Melbourne Cup. Yarramba was well fancied yesterday but ran badly. Wind- . bag, sire of Topical, also got Winooka. Shakuni, trained by the former New Zealander Georges Price, was prominent always and won the Ascot Vale narrowly. The time, lm. 11s., was the fastest ever recorded by a juvenile at Flemington. The Adelaide representative Magna Carta finished brilliantly, in the Farewell and won in the last stride. The runner-up is also owned and trained at Adelaide. G. Dally, rider of Ceildh in the hurdles, was suspended for two months for crossing the field too sharply at the home turn the first time.
