SAILING OF THE AKAROA. ! ' By Telegraph—Pres* Assn.—Copyright. Rec. 5.5 p.m. London, Dec. 20. An interesting association with Akaroa and with the hoisting of the British, flag in the South Island of New Zealand was mentioned by Sir Thomas Wilford, High Commissioner, in a message to a luncheon on the new ship Akaroa on the eve of its sailing. He complimented the company on its foresight in preparing for .good times instead of waiting till they came.

Mr. John MacMillan said that from the point of view of utility there was no better ship in the New, Zealand trade. Mr. Malcolm MacDonald stressed the t importance of British ships to the flow of Empire trade.
