PEMBROKE SCHOOL BREAK-UP.

ENTERTAINMENT OF CHILDREN. A band of willing workers were to be seen at the Pembroke Hall on Friday, when preparations were being made for the entertaining of the children. The evening saw adults and children plying fork and spoon at a bounteous tea, set out on prettily decorated tables. Tea over, the floor was cleared, when dancing intermingled with items by the school children was greatly enjoyed by all. The chairman,, Mr. Frank, after addressing the children, distributed the prizes, every child in the school receiving a book. A very pleasing little incident was the presentation to the teachers by the children and ex-pupils of the school. Mr. Belcher, who has been a member of the ccommittee for a number of years, eulogised the sterling qualities of the teachers, and traversed the progress the school has made since the appointment of Mrs. McAloon. as head-teacher some 12 years ago. The chairman then called on Nesta Belcher, who in a neat little speech pre-sented-Mrs. McAloon with a beautiful marquetry fruit bowl on behalf of the senior and ex-pupils of the school. Miss Greatbatch, assistant teacher, who during, her two years at the school has endeared herself to both children and parents, was also the recipient of a marquetry powder bowl and lacquered vase from the infants. This presentation was made, by little Betty Wicksteed. Both teachers feelingly responded.
