INSOLVENT COUNTY COUNCIL
STATE TO PAY HALF INTEREST.
FURTHER ASSISTANCE SOUGHT.
By Telegraph.—Press Association. Gisborne, Nov. 30.
The finances of the Matakaoa County Council continue in a critical state, the recent prosecutions of defaulting ratepayers being practically without result. The Government has offered to pay half the yearly interest bill due shortly in London, but the council has resolved that unless the Minister of Internal Affairs can provide funds for the county clerk and reasonable office expenses there is no alternative but to close the office.
