SALVAGE OF SCOW ECHO
DISCHARGING OF THE CARGO.
EXTENT OF DAMAGE UNKNOWN.
By Telegraph.—Press Association.
Wellington, Nov. 30.
The auxiliary scow Echo, in tow of the Toia, was taken from the floating dock wharf to the Railway Wharf yesterday morning to discharge. The Toia’s pumps were kept going all yesterday to keep the water in check, but the Echo was riding in normal trim. ■ A harbour board diver spent most of the day examining and effecting repairs to the Echo’s hull, though the extent of the damage will not be known until after the scow has been thoroughly examined on the patent slip to-day. The work of discharging was completed shortly after 4 pjn. yesterday, and shortly afterward the Echo was towed to the slip by the Toia. With the, exception of a few bags of chaff, the whole of the Echo’s cargo has been accounted for.
