The King of Denmark will reach London on December 10, the British Official Wireless reports, and will be the guest of the King at Buckingham Palace. . Mr. F. W. Furkert, Wellington, is at Wanganui, where he is inspecting harbour works in order to report upon certain improvement proposals under the consideration of the board. Mr. Justice Reed left New Plymouth for Wanganui yesterday. At Wanganui he will complete the business on the Supreme Court calender interrupted by his visit to New Plymouth to take the sessions there.

Mr. and Mrs. Russell Matthews, of New Plymouth, arrived in Auckland by the Aorangi after an extended tour of England, the Continent and America and will return to New Plymouth toward the end of the week.

The death of Mrs. G. D. Greenwood, following a sudden illness, is reported by the Press Association from Christchurch. She was the widow of the late Mr. G. D. Greenwood, the prominent sportsman and owner of Gloaming. Mr. J. Blair, jun., son of Mr. J. Blair, chief engineer of the Waitara Freezing works, returned from England on Tuesday evening. Apart from serving on the engineering staff of ocean-going he has been studying engineering in England for some time.

Regret at the death of some people who had been with the church from the beginning and on through its dark and its bright days was expressed by the Rev. J. D. McL. Wilson at the annual meeting ofthe congregation of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, New Plymouth, last night Names recorded in the session report were Mr. A. Cassie, who had been an elder for some ten years, Miss Betts, Mrs. Matheson, Mrs. Drummond, Mr. H. R. Bruce and Mr. Phin.

An aged Maori, Paoro Wirihana, known as Paul Wilson, died a few years ago at the Manaia settlement, about eight miles from Coromandel, on the Thames-Coro-mandel main highway. Wirihana had resided at Manaia all his life and had a wonderful store of knowledge regarding the early happenings in connection with mining and other industries. Winhana is said to have been born in the early part of last century. He was a splendid type of Maori, upright and honest with the old simple sense of honour typical of the early Maori. He was very popular with all who knew him. He did not belong to the local tribes, but to the Tauranga Maoris, who some time ago wished to take him away to look after him, but he preferred to be independent.

Mr. Isaac John Salmon, who was bailiff at Feilding for many years, passed away in hospital at Palmerston North on Saturday last, at the age of 80 years. The late Mr. Salmon was well-known in Wellington, as he was one of the most prominent cricketers in New Zealand in the 70’s and 80’s. A member of the Midland Club, he was a fine all-round player, being a bowler who could keep a length, and a punishing batsman, who usually opened the innings. He first represented Wellington against Nelson in 1870, and represented Wellington against the English teams in 1877 and 1882, and against the Australian team in 1881. After leaving Wellington, Mr. Salmon settled in Feilding, and played cricket there for many years. Upon hia retirement from the office of bailiff he took up residence at Halcomb®,
