MEAT LOADED BY UNION
PORT FREMANTLE’S CARGO WORK COMMENCED LAST NIGHT. , 1.. - • > ■ DECISION AT MORNING MEETING. Meat brought from the Waitara freezing works was loaded by union labour into the Port /remantle at Moturoa wharf at the port of New Plymouth last night. Work on the meat commenced last evening and continued .till after 9 o’clock. A meeting of members of the Watersiders’ Union was held yesterday, morning, and after a somewhat stormy meeting it was decided to load meat. The decision was not unanimous but about two-thirds voted for a resumption of meat loading, it is understood. The Port Fremantle arrived at New Plymouth from Wellington on Tuesday to load 10,000 boxes of butter, 10,000 crates of cheese and 5000 freight carcases of meat. Butter and cheese loading was continued as usual on Tuesday and yesterday, but there was no meat for loading till last night, when a gang was transferred. from dairy produce. The Port Fremantle will complete her New Plymouth loading of produce to-day and is scheduled to sail for Napier at midnight.
