JUNIOR CRICKET MATCHES

ONLY TWO GAMES PLAYED. Only two games in the North Taranaki senior B and junior cricket competitions were started on Saturday. Waitara senior B team visited New Plymouth and commenced a game against the New Plymouth team that could not be completed. Western Park went to Waitara and won a high-scoring game on the first innings. New Plymouth piled on the runs. m the match against Waitara, declaring with five wickets down for 167. Ferry and Broughton were well set at the declaration. with 51 not out and 46 not out respectively. Lawrence had made 27 and Giblin 26. Whitmore and Ewens were the chief bowlers. Waitara commenced their innings and had scored 20 for no wickets (Ellis 15) when rain stopped play. The match was drawn. Western Park juniors beat Waitara on the first innings. Waitara went to the crease first and scored 118, Stockman 5., Jupp 12, Wood 11 and Paltridge 10 being the highest scorers. R. Alsop took six for 26. Western Park had scored 133 for four wickets when stumps were drawn. A. Nicoll (38 not out), Parsons 32, Mahar 30 and George 14 were the best scorers and Jupp and O’Carroll shared the bowling honours. SOUTHERN JUNIOR MATCHES. WIN FOR STRATFORD SCHOOL B. Despite an almost continuous light rainfall Stratford. Technical High School B played Manaia in a junior cricket match at Manaia on Saturday. The visitors batted first and won the match on the first innings by 144 to 41. Manaia batted again and made 51 for four wickets. McCready (44), B. Jones (40 not out) and I. Ryburn (30) were Stratford’s best scores. F. Andrews (18) made Manaia’s top score. Adlam took five Manaia wickets for one run, Richardson three for 2 and Ryburn. two for 2. In Manaia’s second innings F. Andrews (15) and Hobday (15 not out) were best. FRIENDLY MATCH AT OKATO. VICTORY FOR TARURUTANGI. In a friendly game at Okato during the week-end Tarurutangi defeated Okato by an innings and 4 runs. Okato batted first and scored 41, to which Tarurutangi replied with 98. Okato in their second innings made 53.
