DISPLAY AT WINTER SHOW INCREASE IN BRITISH MOTORS. NEW ZEALAND BUILT BODIES. Under a, canopy of Union Jacks, the motor section of the show this year is 90 per cent, British. The most striking feature this year is the advance in exhibits of English cars. Two facts have chiefly accounts for this—the increased prices, for most . American pars and the advancement of the English cars. The tendency this year on the whole in motor manufacture is away fronj. the big car to the intermediate models ot more economical running. The big cars are there, finished products of workmanship, and the baby cars, which . give stout service for their size, but the notable increase is in the intermediate car. The chief mechanical , improvement ts the new synchro-mesh gear, which eliminates the noise from the gear-box when the car is climbing in second gear. Many of the models have third and. fourth gears, the third gear ’ giving the power of - the old second gear with the silent running of the old. top gear. The advance in motor body construction by New Zealand builders is shown in cars which have a body finish equal to that of any imported article. The body design of all cars on the whole is better adapted to New Zealand requirements. All the cars are better fitted with extras such as bumpers and shock absorbers than in previous years.
