YEARLY PHONE DIRECTORY

SUBSCRIBERS MAKE COMPLAINTS. RETURN TO HALF-YEARLY ISSUE, There has been no issue of the official directory’containing the names of New Plymouth subscribers since August of last year, and it is understood that as one of its economy measures, the Post mid Telegraph Department decided to publish the list yearly throughout New Zealand instead of half-yearly, as has been tho custom in the past. Under ordinary conditions a new list would have been available last February so that the names of all those who had linked up with the telephone system since August, 1931, would have been included. As it is they have been deprived of this part of the service for which they have been charged. It is stated by several new subscribers that they are losing a considerable portion of the benefit to be derived from the possession of a telephone by not being listed in the directory until months after the installation. On request, m some centres, new subscribers are provided by the department with a supply of cards to enable them to notify clieu » and friends of the fact that they have installed a telephone. This, l} owev ® r ’ ! not considered adequate, m view of tne delay in printing new directories, noi does the fact that the numbers of unlisted subscribers can be obtained from the information department of the exchange compensate for the loss o - service given by tho directory.Ht isidea that an early return to the half-ye y issue will bo welcomed-
