CROQUET CLUB GALA DAY
SUCCESS AT NEW PLYMOUTH.
BOWLING CLUB MEMBERS ATTEND
A combined gala day was held by croquet players and bowlers on the lawns of the New Plymouth Bowling Club on Thursday. Although the day was rather cold a good number assembled and spent a pleasant time. Numerous attractions and competitions were provided and both bowlers and croquet players took part. Prize-winners were: Golf croquet (in charge of Mrs. Ford), Mrs. Hollows and Mrs. Brier); ladder croquet (in charge of Miss Putt), Miss Putt; trail croquet (in charge of Mrs. Alley), Mrs. Drake; peg in ring (in charge of Mrs. West), Mrs. F. Binnie; target croquet (in charge of Miss Allenby), Mrs. F. Bellringer; bowling competition for kissing in the ring on a white sheet, Messrs. J. R. Hill, Linn and Way; bowling for treasure, Mr. F. Binnie. This event was exciting, about 50 rolling up the bowls to draw near the buried treasure. Afternoon tea was served in the tea rooms. The tables were beautifully decorated and the floating bowls of water - i lilies and begonias were greatly admired. The tea committee was Mrs. Turner, Mrs. Horton, Mrs. Tait, Mrs. Tribe, Mrs. Clare and Mrs. Bellringer. Mrs. Brier and Mrs. Hollows were in charge of the lucky strike, Mrs. Black in charge of the beauty competition, and Mrs. Carter in charge of the grape and wine competition (the grape and wine were the gift of Mr. Charles Mace). Mrs. Turner presented a cushion, but this competition was not finished. The croquet club’s funds should benefit by about £7. j
