NAVAL TREATY DEADLOCK
LITTLE HOPE OF SETTLEMENT BRITAIN’S LATEST PROPOSALS. ACCEPTANCE NOT EXPECTED. By Telegraph—Press Assn. —Copyright. London, April 27. If Britain accepted the French compromise in connection with the nava. deadlock the British Empire would probably be compelled to invoke clause 21 of the London Treaty of 11130, resulting in new naval building. Italy likewise considers the compromise hopeless. Britain accordingly has submitted counter-proposals, but it is not expected here that France will accept them. Consequently the difference between France and Italy, which has an important bearing on the British Empire’s naval position, are still far from settlement.
