HANDBAG SNATCHED

ASSAILANTS' DETERMINATION. JEWELLERY AND £l2 TAKEN. Palmerston North, April 27. During the past three or four weeks at least three eases of bag-snatching have occurred at Palmerston North, the latest of these happening on Friday niglit. Mrs. G. Aldridge, who resides at 31 Church Street, was returning home from the city, and when proceeding along Church * Street, near to her residence, saw that she was being followed by a man. Mrs. Aldridge was carrying her handbag, the strap of which, for security, she had entwined around her lingers, when the man suddenly_ snatched at it. The assailant failed in his first attempt, but he made determined efforts to tear the bag free. Mrs. Aldridge screamed, but when a neighbour arrived the assailant had severed the straps of the bag and had decamped with the bag, which contained the sum of £l2 and a quantity of jewellery.
