Mrs. Curtis, wite of Captain Curtis of the Indian Army Service Corps, was foully murdered at the Lahore cantonments and her two daughters, aged seven and six years, were critically injured. The murderer was a sikh named Sajan Singh, who walked into the house and attacked Mrs. Curtis while she was reading in an arm chair. He shouted, “I’m Congress wallah!” and brandished a sword. The first blow nearly severed Mrs. Curtis’ arm, the next broke her wrist and the following blows smashed through her skull. The children were attacked in a similar fashion and only the fact that they were wearing thick topees saved them froin being killed outright. Singh then ran away but was caught. Ho told the police that he had joined a training battalion of the Punjab regiment for the sole purpose of murdering British officers but was discharged before he had a chance. He had since joined the Congress.
