RAILWAY WORK STOPPAGE
EXPLANATION BY MINISTER.

Wellington, January 14. Mr. E. A. Ransom explains that the lifting of the rails on the stopped railway-, works at Gisborne is only part of cleaning-up operations with a view to making sure that there will be no deterioration of material. A certain number of rails would have to be lifted in order to preserve them.
