PRIZE-GIVING CEREMONY. The annual school concert and prizegiving ceremony took place at Hurfcrd Road school on Friday evening before a fair,attendance. The programme was: Dance, senior children; dance, junior children; recitation, Pattie Lynch; song, children; recitation, Percy Lyford; dance, senior children; recitation, Margaret Walsh; dialogue, “Wolf,” Georgia Spence; “Red Hiding . Hood,” Len Spence; “Grandma,” Jewel Moloney; recitation, Gordon Williams; song, the children;- recitation, Daisy Higgins; song, /Mr. A. Hoffman; recitation, Mr. A. E. Williams. The chairman, Mr. T; Walsh, congratulate,d the teacher, Miss E. Simpson, on the success of the concert and Daisy Higgins .for obtaining her proficiency. He then presented all the children with their prizes. He presented attendance certificates to Daisy Higgins, Ivan Williams, George Spence, Len Spence and Percy Lyford. The results of several competitions held during the year were announced as follows: Calf-rearing, Percy Lyford; home gardening, vegetable Daisy Higgins, flowers Winnie Marsh; junior vegetable garden, Margaret Walsh; best school garden, seniors, Teresa Schrider; juniors, Jewel Maloney. A tray cloth competed for during the evening was won by Mr. J. Morris. A Christmas box was ‘presented to Miss Simpson by Lorna Maloney on behalf of the children. After the supper had been provided by the ladies the floor was cleared for dancing, for which music was supplied by Mrs, M. Reynoljs. Several farmers at Hurford Road have begun makin-c ensilage, although the majority of tiiem will wait until after the holidays. The dairy factory is at present making 70 boxes of butter per day, which is about six boxes a day ahead of this month last year. Last Sunday the Sunday school children in charge of Miss Ivy Krntz were given a very enjoyable outing, some cars coming from New' Plymouth to take them in. They spent the morning at Sunday school and after lunch were
taken for a walk around Pukekura Park. They returned to the hall where the. juniors were, given, their prizes. On Monday evening the seniors were again taken to a concert given by the Salvation Army Sunday school children, when they also received prizes. Miss Eileen Reynolds is spending a holiday at Hawera.
