I ABSENT FROM MEETING. Owing to bankrupt’s absence,; the meeting of creditors in the estate of Angus Campbell, labourer, Eltham, held at Hawera on Friday, was adjourned until January 14,’ when it will be continued in the Eltham courthouse. Bankrupt’s liabilities totalled £IBT 13s sd, while his assets were £43, leaving a deficiency of £144 13s sd. Bankrupt stated that he was 47 years of age and . had a family of "six, ranging from seventeen years of age downwards. He commenced working as a sharemilker for Mr. A, Cocker in July, 1928, haying, as the result of slump conditions, nd money at the time. His -family helped him on the farm. He had been receiving 35 per cent, of the; farm proceeds. It had. been arranged that bankrupt should acquire Mr. Cocker’s milk-waggon, horses and.cans. Bankrupt at first paid Mr.. Cocker in instalments,, but in April, 1929, borrowed £5O in order to replay Mr. Cocker in full, and to acquire more milk cans. He still owed the £5O. Owing tp the decrease in prices this year ho had had but £46 9s Id for family purposes since July last. His 35 per cent, had come to more than this amount, ■ but he had had to repay electric light accounts paid by Mr. Cocker. He now owed the Taranaki Electric Power-Board £lO 18s 6d, which was due immediately. In addition to the chattels covered by a .bill-of sale to Mr. Taylor,. bankrupt owned two. horses, an old truck and some furniture. He used the horses and truck in his work on the farm. The Kaupokonui and P. Duddy’s accounts were old, one for stores and one for rent.

Total, £lB7' 13s sd. •-The only secured creditor is L. A. Taylor,, the amount of the debt being £53, while the estimated value of the securities is £56.

HUINGA SCHOOL PRESENTATION.

BANQUET F.OR THE CHILDREN.

The annual breaking-up ceremony and presentation of awards were held at the, Huinga school on Friday, when there was a. large attendance of parents and friends. A banquet was given the children by the bachelors and spinsters of the district, while the ladies provided a separate afternoon tea. Before presenting the prizes the chairman of the school committee, Mr. Jamieson, made reference to the progress of the school during the year a,nd congratulated the teacher, Miss Simmons, on the work she had done. He pointed out that the three pupils, Edna Mitchell, George ’Loving and. Paul Cook who had' been eligible had been awarded parses without having tb sit for the examination. . Fifteen attendance prizes were awarded. Badges. won in the calf-rearing and root crop competitions presented to Beth Cook for first in 'dairy type (Jersey-Ayrshire calf) in the group •judging and second in type in the championship judging; to G. Loving, first in carrots; and to G. Loving 1, J. Cook 2, and P. Cook 3 in mangolds. Cups were presented to G. Loving for the championship in carrots and for second in the championship for mangolds. PERSONAL ITEMS. Among the names of the three students of Victoria College who passed in the final examinations for the LL.B, degree of the University of New Zealand is that of Mr. A. N. Davies, son of Mr. A. Davies, Stratford. GENERAL ITEMS. A return of all rates which were unpaid on March 31 and are still outstanding is to be prepared for submission- to the next meeting of the Eltham Borough Council. The classification of borough roads was decided several years ago, said the Mayor at the meeting of the Eltham Borough Council on Friday, when a communication was received from the Taranaki Local Bodies’ Association. The weight of loads which could be carried on the various roads had been gazetted and it was not necessary for. the borough to revise its schedule.
