BREAKHNG-UP CONCERT HELD. The Pembroke Road Hall -was well crowded. On Friday night with children, parents and friends for ths breaking-up and prize-giving ceremony. Several items given by the children were' thor* oughly • enjoyable, conibining natural ability with careful' training by the teachers. Some of the items were:— Boston two-step, Duke-of York, canoe dance, Pop Goes the Weasel, Hoea-ra poi canoe song; Captain Jinks, duet by Misses- Olga Aagaard and Isabel Cuthbert (Ah umoreske”), ' recitation by Nesta Belcher, Irish jig by Andy Aid-' ridge, Highland Fling by Jean Aid-' ridge, song by seniors, and a playette' (“April Fools”) by Misses Olga Aag’aard and Isabel Cuthbert, Vernon Man-' der and' M. Belcher, school boys 'and Philip Burgess (tramp), Shoe Makers’ dance and Polly'Put the-Kettle On. . - Mr. Belcher, chairman of the school committee; in presenting the prizes said the prize-giving w*as a very important event in the eyes of the children; Mr. Belcher’told the children and teachers they should be proud ■ of the results for the past year; in his opinion' the school Had had a very successful year and the work was of' a high' standard. The school had a . high reputation' and children leaving iiiust see that that r'eputa'tioil was not marred in any way. Mr. Belcher thanked all who had assisted and donated something towards, the gifts, The children cheered for the two- teachers, Mrs. MacAloon and Mrs. Laurence.Supper was served and afterwards the floor was cleared for dancing, the music; ■•being ■ supplied by Waite’s Orchestra. HUIROA SCHOOL “CONCERT. ' J PRESENTATIONS TO TEACHERS. The Huiroa schoolroom/was filled to' capacity on Wednesday night for the; annual school concert and breaking-up. A fine programme lasted about an- hour’ and a-half. Much credit was due to the teachers for the manner, in which. tlie ! children had befen trained. After the' concert the children were all presented with prizes. The dux prize was -won by Joyce Taylor and special prizes donated for the most improved boy and girl in' upper standards and primers were vVoh by Tina Williams and Norman Francis (infants), Tui Fraser and. Rex Rodgers (standards). •' ; ’ The chairman of the school committee, Mr. J. Martyn, thanked the residents for their presence and donations to the prize fund. The teachers, Mr. Wimsett and Miss McKinney, had been appointed to other schools, and Mr. Martyn spoke of the good'qualities of both and presented Mr. Wimsett. with, a weather glass; and Miss 'McKinney! with a manicure set. Mr. Taylor and Mr. Wickham also wished both teachers every prosperity. A dance was held after the concert. The floor was well filled. Miss Wilmhurst supplied the music" for both "concert and dance and Mr. H. Bunny was master of ceremonies.
