JI Bridger, in referring to the recurring damage done to gas fittings and meter at Taumata’ Park.’ The recent damage amounted to £1 ’ and he was becoming very tired of these happenings. He regretted that the "Police Department was not giving the service required. The present coristable was doing all possible and was giving excellent service, but the work was too much and the district was too large for one man. At times even he was taken away to Hawera for special occasions. The Mayor mentioned that a telephone extension was required for the acting-constable when the local man was away on holiday. The recent damage was a deliberate attempt to break the gas meter and steal the money, he said. It was resolved to ask that a telephone extension to the police, office be made from the constables residence. It was only-a-matter of 30s a year, said the Mayor. It was nearly two yehrs.ago 'siiil'e' he' first made application and the.request had not been ac-ceded-'to.:-
