DIRECTOR VISITS STRATFORD. DEPUTATION FROM BUSINESS MEN Mr. J. Lyons, Director of the Live ■ Stock Diviejon of the Department of Agriculture, was in Stratford on' Saturday conferring with local officers on departmental affairs. The' opportunity was taken by Messrs. J. B.- Richards’ and N. B. Fletcher, representing the Stratford Chamber of Commerce and stock-and station com- ( panies, to interview the director upon connected with the staffing of 'the Stratford office of the. department and it. was subsequently .learned from .Mr. Lyons?that a satisfactory unde> standing..had- been reached, although- the 1 financial 1 position might have an -iinpDrt■ant\ bearing .upon the . future policy of the department. The position prevailing in Stratford, where only permanent, officer is stationed-, to 'attend to. all -details of field . work or office routine, has been discussed at meetings of the Chamber and .the Farmers’ .Union ■ and the deputation made'- cut: a- strong case for additional -staffing. The preparatory division, a most important sec■tion, had continued to receive excellent grounding from Miss Bartlett and won special', praise from the -inspector’at; his annual-visit. The only two girls who were really ready, however; had gained their proficiency certificates;'.Form 111, in the secondary' school was rather uneven, but on the whole had done good work, though a rather large' c( tail” to the form showed-that the sylla-' bus had been rather above, some of the members. Very steady work had been done in Form IV., three pupils working definitely for the matriculation and two -for. the .public service examination. Two others had nbt taken the whole cobrse. Of the violin pupils . taught by Mr.. C. H. Rogers two .had entered for and passed the Trinity. College examination. In the R.A.M. examination Miss Riera’s pianoforte pupils had been, very successful in both practical work and. theory. , Class singing had again ; been very successfully taken by Miss.- Bartlett. .., . organised GAMES. In. organised games the School had promising' material. The tennis matches with the Stratford' Technical High School team had resulted in one win and one loss; while the basket ball A team had £iven a .good account of itself in . the secondary schools coinpetition. The little boys had played a cricket match against a team from the Stratford prim- ‘ ary school, and though beaten had had en enjoyable time. The mountain club was a great feature of the school’s outdoor life. There were senior and juniorymembers, and so far the captain had managed that all senior members should reach the top before leaving the school. Miss 'Wilson expressed thanks to Mesdames Penn, Kear, Fredric and Liddell and Miss Riera for donations of school prizes, to Mrs. Townsend and Mr. J. C.
