MANAIA BOY SCOUTS

ANNUAL MEETING HELD. The annual meeting of the Manaia Scouts Citizens’ Committee was held on Tuesday, Mr. C. W. Abbott presiding. The annual report stated that the attendances of the scouts-had been rather poor but that of the cubs had been good. At the recent competitions the scouts won the Ollereushaw Cup and the cubs the Totem Pole. Scouter Payne had won the Wood Badge in the scouters’ training course and was congratulated by the committee. The scouts held two successful camps and a social and the cubs held a successful birthday party.

The financial statement showed a credit of £6 19s sd.

The cubmistress, Mrs. J. Christie, stated that 28 cubs ’■tfere bn the roll and the year’s activities had been verysuccessful. The badges won during the year were: Tenderpads, 7; one year service star, 6; second stars, 3; second years'service stars, ( I'3; first aid badges, 3; collectors’ badges, 2. The scoutmaster, Mr. G. Payne, reported that the scout troop Numbered 15. The badge earning activities had not been so strong tliis year’ as previously, only 36 badges being won compared .with 96 the previous yetur.

The election of officers resulted: President, Mr. C. W. Abbott; committee, Mesdames J. Christie, N. Davis and A. Gamlin, Messrs. A. G. Bennett, G. H. Meuli, J. E. Wells, P. F. Hammonds, A. GainUn, <f. Robertson, W. McKenzie and N. C. Innes; secretary andi treasurer, the Rev. R. Miller.

The matter of a. troop "attending the jamboree at Wellington in February during tho Chief Scout’s visit was left in the hands of the scoutmaster.

The cubmistress extended an invitation to the scouts to attend the cubs’ final meeting for the year this evening, when the trophies will be presented.
