HEALTH ABOARD MALOLO
“IRRITATING DELAYS” DENIED INSPECTION FAST AND ESSENTIALNUMBER NOT ALLOWED TO LAND By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. > Complaints have 'been made at Auckland by officers of the American -tourist ship Malolo regarding “irritating delays” at ports and Wellington through unduly long inspection by the port health authorities. The allegation is strongly denied by the New Zealand Health Department. The department states the Malolo did hot drop anchor at Wellington till 3.35 p.m. Two doctors in a tender were waiting alongside but as the Malolo officials had not provided a boarding ladder the health officials did not get aboard until 3.45 p.m. Examination of the passengers and crew was coinpleted in thirty minutes, Captain Berndston, master of the Malolo, complimenting the officials on the quick manner in. which inspection had, been made.
■ The department adds that in spite of the fact that the Malolo’s officers in Auckland stated the “health of the Malolo’s passengers was assured from the start,” -, the examining officials discovered a certain Vicious disease among certain passengers and members of the crew. These persons were not allowed to hand. ,
