CHARGE AGAINST SOLICITOR. HOLIDAY TOUR CUT SHORT. By Telegraph.— Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. Arrested in the act of boarding the Monowai for San Francisco this afternoon, Brian Dunningham, a solicitor, of Auckland, aged. 23, had the holiday trip he and his wife were taking brought to an unexpected end. He was brought before Mr. McNeil, S.M., immediately and charged with in April, 1929, aiding and abetting Ernest ■ Cedric Chappell and Doris li’ordyce' Chappell to make a declaration that would have amounted to perjury if it had been made on oath in judicial proceedings. The declaration concerned supported an application for a loan from the State Advances Department.
Dunningham said he had a strong defence to the . charge, which he had no doubt would be withdrawn as . soon as he returned to Auckland. He had a return ticket and had announced two months ago his intention of taking a holiday in America. Bail was granted in his own recognisance of £309 and one surety of £3OO. Suppression of his name was refused.
