Lady Myers visited the West End School, New Plymouth, yesterday, and was introduced to the headmaster, Mr. J. Shimmin and the school staff by the Hon. S. G. Smith. Lady Myers was much interested in the special department which is conducted by Miss Fowles. Mr. J. Caughley, formerly Director of Education in New Zealand and recently director of Education in Fiji, has expressed the intention of offering, himself for the Wellington Suburbs seat as a general supporter of the United Party, reserving freedom of action where-he considers it necessary, Tfie death occurred at her home at I!®’ muera, Auckland, recently, of Mrs. J. The appointment of Sir Harold Beauchamp, Mr. George Shirtcliffe and Mr. George Alexander Troup to the board of trustees of the National Art Gallery and Dominipn Museum was gazetted last night, stages a Wellington Press Association message. , The death occurred in a private hospital. at Dargaville on Wednesday night of Mr. George William McCully, deputysuperintendent of the Dargaville fire brigade. He was well-known in fire brigade circles all over New Zealand and was one of the most popular men in the district. He was connected with all branches of sport. He was born at Christchurch in 1887. He leaves a wife and three children. Mr. Benjamin Francis Weale, who died on Sunday, wasjflentified with the early history of New Plymouth. He was bur? ied at. Te Henui Cemetery on Wednesday afternoon. Mr. Weale was proprietor of the Jubilee and Orient private hotel for over 30 years. He landed at New Plymouth ip 1877. He was a. baker by trade and a son of Benjamin W e ale, Plymouth, England, and bandmaster ip H.M. RpypJ N;ivy. Mrs. Weale died in 1911. Mrs. Welch (Australia) is a daughter and Mr. J. D.
