MUSICIAN ENTERTAINED

DEPARTURE OF MISS CRAWSHAW.

COMPLIMENTARY SOCIAL GIVEN.

The Central Home and School Association, NeW Plymouth, arranged a concert and social evening in recognition of the fine work Miss Mary Crawshaw had done for the association, and the fact that St. Mary’s Hall drew a capacity house last night in spite of many counter-attractions was testimony to the high esteem in which the talented young musician is held. A splendid vocal and instrumental programme was arranged by Mrs. Huggett, and every item drew merited appreciation. The items were given by Miss Craw(shaw (piano), Mr. Edgecombe (violin), Mr. Higginson (vocal), Mrs. Connell •(vocal), Miss Lee. (piano) and Mrs. P. Allen (violin), Mr. J. Quinn (vocal), Mrs. Kircher (elocutionary), Miss B. Coleman (vocal), Mr. Edmonston .(vocal), Mrs. R._ Hawkins and Mrs. Avery (duet), Mr. Bosworth :(flute solo), Mrs. K. Jones (vocal), Miss Crawishaw (pianoforte solo), Mr. Hirst . (vocal), Mr. Hay (vocal), Mrs. P. Allen ' (violin).’ Miss Crawshaw was the accompanist. The Mayor, Mr. H. V. S. Griffiths, presided. He said he knew all were proud that. Miss Crawshaw had grown up in New Plymouth. She was not only making a name for herself and her town in the musical world, but she had always exhibited characteristics which endeared her to those who knew her. She not only commanded the admiration'and respect of her townspeople, but also of the examiners. Miss Crawshaw was beginning on a splendid career, and all joined in wishing her success. The people of New Plymouth and North Taranaki would closely watch her progress while she was studying on the other side of the world. It was gratifying that one so gifted was always willing to come forward and assist, and there was no doubt Miss Crawshaw had worked assiduously in the interests of the Home and School Association, as she had given her services for numerous other bodies. He then called upon Miss Crawshaw to accept a substantial cheque as a token of their esteem and goodwill. Replying on behalf of Miss Crawshaw and her family, Mr. Clyde Waters thanked the chairman and members of the association for their splendid gift aud expressions of goodwill. Miss Crawshaw had given her services freely because it was a pleasure to her to assist and entertain others. He felt sure she would carry with her pleasant recollections of her association with the home and school movements and their social evenings. Supper was served by the ladies’ committee under the supervision of Mrs. Huggett. The committee was also responsible for the decorations ift the hall and supper room. The decorations in the hall, which were lent by , the insurance ball committee, consisted of gold and black streamers, golden shaded lights and fernery suspended from the ceiling. Following supper, the hall was cleared for dancing, the orchestral music being arranged by Mr. Renton. Mr. A. F. Sandford was master of ceremonies.
