SOME SIMPLE PREPARATIONS. A good powder base and skin bleach is made from one part of glycerine and two parts of rosewater. Mix thoroughly ami add six drope of spirits of camphor to each ounce of the liquid. Equal parte of fresh cream and lemon-juice, blended together, will improve a thin and discoloured neck, if well masc-aged into the skin. Only sufficient lotion for one day should be prepared at a time. To whiten the akin, make a lotion of four drachma of oxide of zinc, one drachm of glycerine, two ounces of chalk water, and six ounces of rosewater. Shake the bottle well before using, and apply the lotion with a small sponge. If the skin be greasy, first sponge it with diluted eau-de-Cologne. If it is unduly shiny, substitute for the eau-de-Cologne a mixture of ten grains of sulphate of zinc and one ounce of rosewater. A mixture of alum and fuller’s earth is excellent for improving the appearance of a too-greasy skin. To one part of finely powdered alum add live parts of fuller’s earth, mix well, and dust a little of the powder over face, arms and neck occasionally. To clear a sallow or discoloured skin, take a gill of sour milk and add to it, a drop at a time, ten drops of simple tincture of benzoin. Beat together and put the cream into a small jar.
