NO MANAWATU AIRPORT
LOCAL BODIES REJECT SCHEME. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Palmerston N., Last Night. On the grounds that the present financial conditions would not justify a request to the ratepayers to sanction a loan and that the project was premature, a conference of district local bodies rejected a proposal to form an- airport board to control civil aviation facilities and purchase an area of ground for an aerodrome. The Mayor of Feilding (Mr. C. E. Taylor). expressed the opinion that in view of the present transport services Dominion aviation was not necessary in this country at present. . The Mayor of Palmerston North (Mr. A. J. Graham) stated that the project was five or ten years before its time.
