CHAMPION AXEMEN.
WAI TUI SPORTS, events:' Thanks to the progressive spirit displayed by the committee, the Waitui sports have advanced in popularity, not only with competitors, but also with the •public. By the liberality of the prize list and the completeness of their organisation, the sports have attracted the best axemen and sawyers in the Dominion to Waitui where the club has specialise.! in helping the cult of the axe and the saw to the fore. The progressive policy adopted by the club has been recognised by the controlling authorities,’ and' as a result the New Zealand 15-inch chopping championship and the North Island 12-inch championship have been allotted to the club. The dhib has risen to the occasion and has allocated a total of £3O to the two chops, as well as a gold' medal to each champion. In addition,' there are five other chops, as well'as single-handed and double-handed sawing ’ events. ■ Very large '■ entries, representative of the pick of the North Island axemen, have been received, and there should therefore bo some very thrilling competitions at Mr. J.
