JUDGMENTS FOR DEBT

HAWERA-MAGISTRATES COURT. Judgment for plaintiff by default in the following undefended civil cases was given by Mr. J. H. Salmon, S.M., in the Hawera Magistrate’s Court yesterday:— Hawera Hospital Board v. R. T. Graham, £3 16s fid (costs 18s fid); same v. George J. H. Lee, £3 18s (14s). EGMONT CLUB RECOMMENDATIONS In view of the recent loss of five lives on the Tasman Glacier the executive of the Mount Egmont Alpine Club has issued to members recommendations as to the clothing and equipment essential for mountaineering. “One far too often secs people on the mountain in clothing .that would give very little protection from bad weather,” the executive writes in the club’s bulletin. “It is essential that all climbers carry a rucsac with cardigans, gloves, scarf, balaclava and a wind-proof and rain-proof coat. This coat is of great importance as woollen clothing docs not provide -sufficient protection from the wind and is soon wet through if the weather is bad. No matter how fine the day is when a start is made on the climb, a coat made of japara or some similar material should always be car*, ried. After all the person who cannot carry a rucsac with food and extra clothing has no business to be climbing the mountain at all. “It has been pleasing to note the steady improvement in the equipment carried by most of the club members and those who made the Cook trip were freely congratulated on the completeness of their outfits.
