ATTEMPT TO KILL DENIED

CHRISTCHURCH YOUTH CHARGED.

Christchurch, Jan 16.

In the Magistrate’s' Court, Charles Robert Gray, the younger of the two brothers who have admitted the fire crimes, pleaded not guilty to attempting to murder Edward Hammond on July 16. He pleaded guilty to burglaries at Hammond’s shop on July 16 and July •21. Hammond, in evidence, said: *‘l have no doubt at all that the man in the dock is the man.”

In a statement allegedly made by Gray to the police he said: “J got some ammunition from the shop, and was getting other goods when Hammond came in. 1 shot him in the back. 1 used the psitol I stole from the museum.” Accused was committed for trial.
