Bain delayed the start of the Sheffield Shield cricket match between Victoria and New South Wales yesterday. The crowd, becoming impatient, hooted the skippers, Ryder and Kippax. . , Victoria in the first innings yesterday lost six wickets for 194 runs, Ryder making no runs, Ponsford 65, Ellis 25, Hendry 43 and Rigg 42. Ryder went out in the first over by touching the ball to Davidson’s hands. Hendry was run out. The side was all out for 229. Everett took five wickets for 57 runs, Hooker three for 48 and McCabe one for- 39. New South Wales in the second innings made eight runs for the loss of no wickets. Phillips has made six and Fairfax two.
S. AUSTRALIAN FIELDING POOR. TEN CHANCES MISSED IN DAY.’ Rec. 11.45 p.m. Adelaide, Dec. 26. In. the Sheffield Shield match between Queensland and South Australia, Queensland in the first innings made 3SO, of which Thompson contributed 74, Benstead 82, Goodwin 03 and Hurwood 51. Grimmett took six wickets for 93, and Whitfield three for 51. South Australia missed ten chances during the day. Light rain was falling when South Australia began the first innings and caused an interruption after lunch. The southerners’ score at stumps was five for 338. Hone made 24, Harris 78. Pritchard 62 and Richardson 124 not out.
