CLEARING UP THE ISSUE
BRITISH MINERS’ VOTE . - .J OWNERS STANDING ALOOF THE WAGES BOARD PLAN British Wireless. Rugby, Nov. 21. The long-debated issue between the Government and the Miners’ Federation was finally cleared up yesterday, when, as was anticipated, the National Delegate Conference of Miners accepted the Government’s proposals, only two dis-, tricts voting against this policy. The text of the first of the Government Bills for dealing witfi the coal situation, comprising proposals for setting up a w’ages board, and dealing with hours and marketing schemes, will be issued next week. 'So far the mineowners, despite the advocacy of the Government’s policy by the Yorkshire group, have refused their co-operation, but the Times says that the opinion is current on the political side of the miners’ organisation that a compromise may yet be reached. It is suggested that if the coalminers were prepared to enter a joint conference there might be no need for the setting up of a national wages board, or: that at any rate the proposal might be modified so as to meet with their acceptance and remove the neoessity for imposing it upon them.
