MAN BURNED IN HIS HOME

SHOTGUN DISCOVERED NEARBY. NOTE ADDRESSED TO CORONER. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. The remains of George T. Thurgood, aged 60, who lived alone, were found in the burning ruins of his home at Swanson this morning. The house was seen in flames shortly before 11.30 last night and nothing could be done to save the building. This morning inquiries were made for Thurgood, and as he could not be located an endeavour was made to search the debris. When that was done the remains of the missing man were found beside the wreckage of a bed. The house had been completely burned and only the outer walls were standing. Close to one of them the body was found, and near it were the remains of what appeared to have been a doublebarrelled gun. Thurgood is stated to have been in indifferent health of late and to have been suffering from nerve strain and worry. The police found a note in the fowlhouse addressed to the coroner.
