POSSIBLE GIFT OF PLANE

RECOMMENDATION BY MINISTER. PROMISE PERHAPS CONDITIONAL. An indication that he would recommend to Cabinet the gift of a plane to the New Plymouth Aero Club was made by the Minister of Defence, the Hon. T. M. Wilford, to Mr. G. M. Spence, president of the club, during the latter’s visit to Wellington on Friday. The announcement was made by Mr. Spence on Saturday morning when the welcome to the Auckland Aero Club fliers was being held at the Bell Block aerodrome. . Referring at the conference on Saturday night to Mr. Spence’s announcement Mr. S.°G. Smith, M.P., said he thought the promise might be conditional upon the club’s making good. To an interjection from the Mayor (Mr. H. V. S. Griffiths) that the club had made good Mr. Smith explained that he referred to the question of the training of pilots, which the club would have to undertake and carry out successfully to satisfy the Government.
